Experiment A: Part 1

Wait, there! A spike! She’s still in there! We haven’t lost her!

I don’t know. The science is extremely underdeveloped. We have no idea how any of this works. But now…she could have the key.

I refuse to believe she was under for that long and didn’t find something!

“Who are you?”

“Hello? Why are you quiet?”

Listen, Elise, I need you to focus. I need you to remember!

[[She could hear the bombshells. She could not hear the crying children.

She could see tears filling her eyes. She could not see the crumbling walls around her.

She could feel the pain. She could not feel her own body.]]

“It hurts! The pain…!”

Push back! Fight the pain by thinking of love!

[[Curled up on her father’s lap by the fireplace.

Being read bedtime stories by her mother.

Being protected by her big brother.]]

Now focus! Think before the pain! Who am I?

[[“Mom, what does Dad actually do?”

“He’s a researcher. He’s studying comas.”]]

“I’m in a coma, aren’t I? You’re my dad?”

You always were a bright one, Peppermint. I’m trying to pull you back out, but I need you to stay with me, alright?

“How long has it been?”

That’s not-

“How long?!”

…ten years.

“I’ve been in a coma for ten years?!”

Don’t slip back under! You need to stay with me! Stay away from the…

The beautiful, comforting darkness.
